Listen up! As many of you know I am in search of some wonderful people to teach at this years Herb & Garden Sympoium. I would like your help.
Please forward this to any lists you may be on.
In addition to having classes closely related to the herb field -- I would like to know where Herbs would have fit in in all aspects of the Middle Ages...let's explore these together. If you are interested or involved in any of the following - ask yourselves these questions...then create a class or a discussion around the answers...
Do you do calligraphy / Illumination? What pigments were used in the paint? What plants / gardens were painted in in the Illuminations?
Do you do Leatherworking? What was used in the dyes? can you find any period leather work that used plants in the design?
Do you do Heraldy? What plants were used in period heraldry? What plants could be used in modern SCA heraldry?
Do you do cooking? What are the herbs typically used? What candies were made from plants? Edible flowers?
Do you sew or are you into fiber arts? Were herbs used in embroidery designs? How were clothes died - what plants were used?
Do you dabble in Natural Medicine? What was used? Any cures that would still be considered today?
We really do use plants in every phase of our lifes and would have used plants in various ways in the Middle Ages. Please help me in exploring this wonderful topic.
Thank you kindly,
Harley
